CREATING A CENTER OF EXCELLENCE IN COMPLEX-SYSTEMS RESEARCH FOR COLOMBIA
The centre is intended to respond to these challenges both and requirements of a developing country, and at the same time provide a stimulating environment for research, for encounters and communication across disciplinary frontiers and platform for postgraduate academic formation.
The centre initially comprises 20 research groups covering a wide range of subject from basic to applied research, subdivided into five sections:
1. Nanos : Natural and artificial nanosystems.
2. Techne : Technology and industrial processes.
3. Bios : Biological systems, ecosystems, and biologically-inspired systems.
4. Gaia : Terrestrial, atmospheric and oceanic processes in interaction with ecosystems.
5. Oikos: Socio-economic systems.
Special emphasis will be put on applications to problems specific for the region, and to consulting and training services for public and private institutions.
Research in the center will reflect the broad scope and interdisciplinary character of complexity science. While the subdivision into five sections is intended to provide a basic structure, an intense interchange across section border is desired and will be fostered by common activities such as seminars and meetings. The list of participating group is by no means intended to be static and closed.
